FAQs
Your directions are weird. What’s up with that?
You’re welcome to use Google, Apple, Waze or whatever direction tool you most enjoy to find places listed here. Just don’t get mad at us when the road you took turns into a dead end because someone has added a fence or a house or something and forgot to tell Google about it. You do you. Welcome to Baja.
Do you have favorites?
Welcome to the Clam…it’s everywhere we want to eat.
Why doesn’t “mañana” actually mean tomorrow?
In Baja, there is the concept of mañana…which usually means “I will eventually get to it, but it probably won’t be mañana aka tomorrow.” Welcome to Baja where time just moves a little differently. I mean we’ve stopped following Daylight Savings, anything is possible here!
My restaurant isn’t listed! What gives?
We love you. We mean it. We’re getting to all the places we can and writing witty and informative posts about them as fast as possible…send us an email and we’ll make sure your restaurant is included mañana!
You’re missing information that I think is key about a business…and I have better photos for you to use!
Sweet, we love being told we’re doing it wrong. That said, we’re open to contributors, so send us an email with what you think should be included and we’ll let you know if we agree.
About driving through Pescadero...
Pescadero pops up rather quickly. So much so that not everyone realizes it’s a town with pedestrians crossing what is essentially a multi-lane federal highway. At all hours. So when the posted speed limit reduces to 40 or 60km, heed the advice! Pescadero is not a place to speed through, for so many reasons.
I went to a restaurant that isn’t listed! What gives?
This party of two is doing our best to eat and drink our way through Todos, Pescadero and Cerritos…but there’s only so many hours in a day and we have to work our day jobs. If you would like to be a contributor for the site, send us an email and we’ll fill you in on the short and sweet process!
What’s with all the dogs in restaurants?
Dogs are part of many households in Todos Santos. It’s also created a bit of a wild dog population, and while many restaurants discourage four legged friends, sometimes it’s just unavoidable. If you would like to bring your pet with you, best to inquire in advance.
Why is this thing called The Chocolate Clam?
Chocolate clams are indigenous to the Sea of Cortés and Baja. They aren’t fancy, and neither are we. The fact that they are found at the beach and then often roasted in the sand where they’re found or savored raw, it pretty much embodies everything we like about living here.
What time do restaurants close?
Many restaurant kitchens close around 8 or 9pm (aka “Baja Midnight”), though there are a few spots for late night eats. Search by “Late Night” for a list of what’s on deck later in the evening.
Do you list all places to eat in Todos Santos?
Not yet, but we’re working on it! We accept unsolicited submissions, so please send along to tipjar@thechocolateclam.com. If your entry is accepted, once the details are verified, we will post it with a credit to you and link to something you’re working on that you would like the community to know about.
Are tips included in The bill?
No. Or rather, very rarely. The IVA on your bill is tax. So do as you would anywhere else and leave 15-20% tip for the service staff. We aren’t here to tell you what to do, but 2020 is not that far behind in the rearview mirror, so a little more generosity if you can swing it is much appreciated.
